Things you need on a Fishing Trip

Things you need on a Fishing Trip

Fishing in itself is a very simple and relaxing sport.  Whether you are sitting on the shore of your favorite lake or trolling around the clear waters of a great lake, you need to make sure you have certain items with you.
FISHING LICENSE

Never go out fishing without your fishing license. 'Anglers must have their license on them at all times.'
Regulations vary by state, so make sure to check with your Department of Natural Resources Website regarding regulations.
LURES, LINES, POLES
Of course, you need the lures or bait that you will be using to match the fish you want to catch. There are endless possibilites that you can use for bait, line, weight, pole etc. Panfishing for example, you might have jigs and an ultra light rod.
When you are at the local sporting goods store, ask the following questions: What are we fishing?, Where? What are they hitting?
Maps
Maps are important for longer trips on the lake to remind you of where you are at and in case you get turned around.  For shorter trips you can rely on your memory.
Safety Gear
It is important to always think of safety.  You should have a first aid kit available, even it is a small one, it can help if a small emergency arises. You will also need sun protection; ie. sunscreen, hats, visors, sunglasses etc. Especially, in wooded or marsh areas remember to bring bugspray. Don't forget to also pack a FULLY CHARGED cellphone.
PLIERS
It can be difficult to remove a hook from the mouth of a fish.  Pliers are essential for any fishing trip and can put on a neck lanyard for easy access.
WATER & FOOD
If you are going out by the lake for a couple of hours you might want to take a snack and a couple of bottles of water.  If you are going for the day, make sure to pack a cooler with bottles of water, sandwiches etc.
*Water is also very important if you are bringing your Dog along with you.  Make sure that you have a portable bowl and water for your pet, especially if it is warmer out.
Camera
You will also need Photo evidence of that "HUGE" fish that you catch.  Make sure you take a tape measure and camera.
If you are going out fishing this weekend, send us a photo of what you catch to  and we will put it on our BRAGGIN' Board. Send it to capitoloutdoors@gmail.com
