Illinois Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus

Illinois Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus

On April 21, 2015 the Illinois Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus (ILSC), Co-Chaired by Representative Brandon Phelps held its annual Sportsmen's Caucus Dinner and Auction. This year it was a little different format, the ILSC partnered with the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation (CSF) to bring over 200 hunters and anglers and over 20 legislators from across the state to gather in Springfield. See the Membership list of Illinois Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus here.

Evening started out with appetizers and drinks and as people began showing up they shared stories, laughs, discussed policy and even set up future fishing and hunting adventures down the road.

As we sat down for dinner Representative Phelps introduced the President of CSF, Jeff Crane. While I didn't get to talk much with President Crane, I was able to talk with some of CSF staff. I spoke with Kyle who covers the Upper Midwest and Chris who covers the Lower Midwest. They helped the ILSC set up the event and have a passion for hunting and fishing. They, like Capitol Outdoors want to see more people involved in the legislative process.

The reason why this caucus is so important is because, Illinois has over 1.3 million consitutents that enjoy hunting & fishing, thats 1/12th of the population of Illinois. Those individuals are from Galena to Cario and that's why uniting all these men and women from around Illinois is in our best interest. Illinoisans support over 30,000 jobs and bring in over $2.3 billion in revenue. So not only do we have numbers we also a vain in the Illinois economy.

Illinois Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus Co-Chair Representative Brandon Phelps (IL) accepted an award at the event for his leadership in the National Assembly of Sportsmen's Caucuses. Its great to have an Illinois legislator receiving awards and being known as a leader in the outdoor community. I want to thank all of the legislators that support hunters & anglers across the state. Also, want to thank Director Rosenthal and Governor Rauner for attending and supporting us as well.
