Illinois Free Fishing Days

Many of us are fortunate enough to be able to spend time fishing, hunting and enjoying the great outdoors. We're all not so lucky. Weather its work or another disruption, we're not able to spend the time outside that we would like. In a recent article 3 Facts every Illinois Hunter and Angler needs to know we mentioned that they average angler gets out about 13 times a year. Some people have never been out. Could you imagine... No fishing during the summer? I'd go crazy.

I got a phone call from my dad asking if I wanted to fish a bass tournament on Lake Shelbyville in May. He could hardly get the words out of his mouth before I answered yes. Usually my dad and oldest brother go, but with some obligations, my brother couldn't make it and I'm the fill-in for the day. Several weeks ago Capitol Outdoors wrote about the Illinois Sportsmen's Caucus Annual Dinner hosted by the Congressional Sportsmen Foundation. While at dinner we read some information at the table regarding hunters and anglers.

Illinois Deer Hunter Survey 2015

Earlier Capitol Outdoors wrote about how the Illinois Department of Natural Resources was holding open houses for waterfowl hunters. This was an opportunity for them to voice concerns, address problems and give suggestions. We pushed this on social media and other avenues to educate waterfowl hunters to fill out the survey and give their advice/suggestion.
